Web-based automation creates efficiencies and eases compliance

LIVONIA, Mich. (February 7, 2012) – WorkForce Software, the leading provider of workforce management solutions for organizations with complex labor policies and stringent compliance demands, announces that Elgin Community College has substantially improved time and attendance reporting with its EmpCenter® solution.

ECC is a comprehensive public community college, one of 48 statewide. ECC serves approximately 11,000 students per semester in credit classes while some 11,000 more rely on the college for non-credit classes and activities each year. Programs of study include university transfer, more than 155 career-oriented, occupational degrees and certificates, corporate and continuing education and a full complement of pre-collegiate courses.

As is common in higher education, ECC’s workforce includes numerous jobs with distinct pay, accrual, and time recording processes, including many employees that work multiple jobs. Manually tracking this was a significant administrative effort. ECC recognized that moving to an automated system could streamline pay rule compliance, improve data accuracy, and enable HR to spend more time on student-focused projects. To achieve this vision, the college partnered with WorkForce Software.

“WorkForce offered us the ability to fully automate time and labor, which was an essential capability,” stated Kristin Richmond, analyst of human resources information systems at Elgin Community College. “When we can make our employees’ jobs easier, that directly translates into an improved campus experience for everyone.”

Soon after rolling out EmpCenter to its campus, the college also confirmed another benefit: ease of use. Employees appreciate the simple web-based interface, multiple methods of entering time, and the ability to check time off requests and accruals in real time. Ease of use translates into a higher utilization rate, which gives ECC’s HR team a wealth of labor data and further supports its student-centric mission.

“Elgin Community College took a sophisticated approach to enhancing time and labor management, and their goal of end-to-end automation is exactly what EmpCenter was designed to deliver,” commented WorkForce Software Vice President of Marketing Marc Moschetto. “Perhaps because of increasing competition for applicants and federal grants, we’ve seen intensifying interest among colleges and universities in more effectively managing labor spend and payroll compliance. And with more than ten years of direct experience, WorkForce Software is a trusted and leading partner in higher education.”
