The pandemic exposed just how difficult it is to get in touch with deskless workers when employers need to communicate urgent messages and frequently changing regulations.  

“The pandemic brought on a bunch of challenges related to the health and safety of shift workers,” Joe Ross, Chief Product Officer at WorkForce Software, says. “One of the major complexities is that almost 60% of companies have little to no flexible technology solutions in place for their deskless workers [who] comprise 80% of the global workforce and almost 100% of all shift workers.” 

Going forward, Ross emphasizes employers’ need to embrace self-service options for employee scheduling, and to honor work-life balance for employees. 

As Ross notes, “The days of command and control, do as you’re told, show up for work and be happy about it—that culture is gone.”
