Notes from the Payroll Prof

“Education, Networking, Technology, and Fun”
If you’re a payroll professional, you owe it to yourself to invest in continuing education to stay current with laws, best practices, and technology. One great way to do that, and have a lot of fun too, is to attend the American Payroll Association’s Annual Congress. These events are the world’s largest gatherings of payroll professionals. The learning and networking opportunities are unsurpassed.
This year’s Congress will be held on May 13-17 in Austin Texas. Be sure to attend the full day “Pre-Congress” activities on Tuesday, May 13. Learning opportunities over the 4 1/2 days include five general sessions, four luncheons, and nearly 200 workshops to choose from. Whether you’re brand new to payroll, have been a payroll professional for years, or anywhere in between, there will be plenty of sessions packed with information you can use. Invited government speakers include IRS Acting Commissioner Linda E. Stiff, and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.
Networking opportunities are unmatched since there will be somewhere around 2,500 other payroll, human resources, benefits and financial professionals in attendance. The world’s biggest payroll vendor hall will provide opportunities to learn about all the latest vendor offerings. Twenty-nine recertification credit hours will be awarded to attendees.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an APA Congress if it was only about learning. APA’s Payroll parties are legendary! You’ve probably heard of “Austin City Limits.” The theme of this year’s Congress is “Payroll City Limits” so expect lots of Texas food, music, entertainment and a huge “Pay City Limits Big Rig Bash!” Entertainment also includes an evening with actor and comedian Paul Rodriguez.
Be sure to visit the APA website (www.americanpayroll.org/Congress) for complete details and registration information. Sign up soon when Congress fees are lowest and hotel selection is at its best.
I will be at the APA Congress, and so will WorkForce Software. Stop by Booth #412 and say hello!
