IFCO Systems North America has paid $1,602,267 in back wages to its employees after the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division accused the company of failing to pay 1,751 employees in 17 states properly for the overtime hours that they worked. [more]
20% of air traffic controllers at LAX are trainees, study says
The shortage of experienced controllers also has led to a substantial hike in overtime pay, according to the report. Controllers logged 5,866 hours of overtime at LAX in 2008, an 868 percent increase from the 606 hours reported just two years earlier, according to the report. At the Southern California TRACON, controllers reported 36,700 hours of overtime last year, a 400 percent increase of the 7,300 hours logged in 2006. [more]

The Department of Labor's system for receiving and responding to wage and hour complaints is ineffective and discourages wage-theft complaints, according to a report by the Governmental Accountability Office (GAO) after an undercover investigation. [more]
