In some way, we all strive to accomplish best practices. Trying to find the best possible way to accomplish a task, at home or at work, is a best practice. For many of us, we try to get more done in less time.

For example, our two-day weekends are short, yet this is when we have time to run errands and take care of household tasks. We learn the most efficient routine to get our chores done, so we can also enjoy the weekend.

It is the same concept on the job, although the goal may depend on your role in the organization. Maybe your goal is to get more work done in eight hours, so you can go home to your family. A Palmetto environmental consulting company has agreed to pay $167,454 in back wages to employees following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division.

Tyson employees file suit over pay
Six employees of Tyson Foods, Inc., in Joslin, Ill., have filed suit against the company over time they spend at the plant, but are not paid for. According to the suit, the company does not pay employees working on the assembly line for pre- and post-production activities such as putting on and taking off personal protective equipment, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and walking to the production line from their locker, among other things. Brooklyn Dry Cleaner Settles with Laundry Workers, Also Agrees to Pay Civil Penalty
A local dry cleaner, after being investigated and sued by the U.S. Department of Labor, has agreed to pay his employees more than $30,000 in back wages. [more]
